Brian and Leeann BunnBrian and Leeann Bunn, our founders. Their dream became a reality in 1993 when The Barn Youth Center opened to the Whatcom county community, providing a non-denominational, drug and alcohol-free place for the youth of Whatcom county to have fun in a wholesome, safe environment.
 
Mr. Len Honcoop, a local business man, is one of the original board members. A husband, father and grandfather, he understands young people and is committed to working with and helping those who need a gentle hand. Len brings wisdom and a lifetime of service and experience to help those who want to mature.
 
Darrin Matter got his first taste of “barn work” as a fourth grader when he helped with a community cleanup project at The Barn. Years later he became actively involved and now serves as a Board member and is the driving force between the Thursday evening middle school outreach to youth, called “Game Night”.
 
Mr Bob Haggendorn joined the board prior to the official opening. Since that time he has been involved with Game Night and is active within our community promoting the mission of the Barn. The father of three teenagers, Bob has an appreciation for a facility like the Barn and the work we do.
 
Karen Matheis is an original board member. Initially, she was one of the most helpful influences helping to arouse community support for the Barn. She remains committed to the Barn’s mission–the building of relationships with young people. Karen brings a nurses perspective and years of working with kids to our board.
 
Liz Cooper works with special needs children. This experience gives her valuable insight into their needs and how children respond in a variety of situations. She has a soft spot for those who are “on the fringe”.
